My intention was as clear as an almost cloudless Australian Outback sky. I wanted to photograph Emma Gorge in The Kimberley, capturing its essence far better than I had during my first visit 35 years ago. The journey, however, was fraught with barriers that tested my resolve.
Traversing thousands of miles to reach this remote wonderland was just the beginning. My knee throbbed with pain from an old injury, and my footwear was laughably inadequate for the rugged terrain. To make matters more daunting, I couldn't shake the warnings about a potentially deadly snake lurking in these parts. Yet, I was determined to succeed, no matter the odds.
After a hot & sweaty trek under the unforgiving sun, I finally arrived at Emma Gorge. The sight that unfolded before me was awe-inspiring. Towering cliffs, 65 meters high, formed a natural amphitheatre that beckoned me into its cool, inviting embrace. At the heart of this sanctuary lay a crystal-clear pool, so clear you could see the dirt under your toenails, shimmering beneath the beautiful sky.
I discarded my backpack and stripped down to my swimming gear, eager to experience this oasis up close. The taste of adventure filled my senses, mingling with the taste of untouched wilderness.
As I swam towards the base of the waterfall, the sensations were overwhelming. The water's coolness was a relief against my heated skin, and the spray kissed my face with the freshness of the Kimberley's untamed spirit.
