If you were to ask anyone who has visited the town of Positano on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, “what was the most memorable element of your visit to Positano?”. Well, while they could actually say many things, the odds are, they will talk about the bright and bold colors of the buildings as they cascade down the cliffs, and I would agree.
When the sun is bright and the sky is blue, the colors really pop and the entire town appears almost surreal. I personally love capturing crisp, bold colors in my photography as I am a very visual person and that really appeals to me. So, once I saw these colors, I knew I needed to try and capture the Positano Colors in all their glory. We needed to find the right isolated location and composition. This would not be easy since there are so many others things that could get into the image such as people and cars. We began to walk around the town, looking for areas where I could capture these colored buildings and some of the gorgeous fuchsia colored flowers that were in full bloom while we were there, without any other distractions.
Hiking along some quiet winding paths that were making their way along the backside of the buildings and very much out of the way, we came upon a number of spots that presented some beautiful images. Finally, we came upon the spot that created this image. WOW! The sun was in the right spot to really illuminate the buildings and make their colors pop. The sky was deep blue with literally zero clouds. I was so lucky that there was a huge, bright fuchsia colored flower bush in the composition. This image could not have been better. The isolation of the buildings, flowers and sky, make you just get immersed in the colors and the scene, it’s captivating.
This image really accentuates what many people remember about Positano, the colors.
