From time to time, I would venture down to the Rio Grande River at the Rio Rancho/Corrales Bosque Preserve hoping to get lucky and capture a great photo. This location at times can produce some very scenic views of the Rio Grande River, Cottonwood Trees in the Bosque and a stunning view of the Sandia Crest. An epic photographic trifecta.
As I approached the river while driving down the dirt road, I began to see electronic warning signs about the dangerous river condition. I’d never seen this before. There had been record snow falls last winter in the Colorado Rockies and it was now melting and making its way down the Rio Grande.
When I pulled up to the river, I noticed that the water was running so strong that it was producing small rapids. Usually, the Rio Grande is a calm meandering river with ribbons of sand bars mingling throughout its length. I set up my camera and tripod, looked through the lens and there before me was a wonderful composition. The river was flowing strong, the trees of the Bosque were still yellow and Sandia Crest was radiating the sun’s golden hour glow. And the literal “Icing on the Cake”, was the snow still covering the mountain peaks from the previous day’s snow.
It doesn’t get any better.
