The City of Barrie Rotary Club Waterfront Clock is located at the foot of Bayfield Street, on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay. Overlooking Lake Simcoe, this timepiece was erected in 2016 by local Rotary Clubs to commemorate Canada's 150th birthday. The cost of this was funded by the sale of 1000 granite commemorative bricks. The public was open to purchase these pieces with engraving of their choice inscribed on them.
And now, with the passage of time, the commemorative bricks are no more. This is a popular spot in this location, and much foot traffic has passed over these bricks. There is a price to pay for wear and tear.
The city has erected a fence surrounding this clock, and the ability to walk onto the boardwalk to get this view has been limited by a large gate.
This view is no longer seen. The diminished traffic with pandemic restrictions and the changes surrounding the clock have made this image one of a kind.
We will not again see this view north on Bayfield Street, so what an opportunity it was to take advantage of this unique moment.
